The First (and Hopefully Last) Post

I have finally purchased hosting and have a new blog up at alexwideman.com. Check it out!

Thanks for clicking on a link to this site! I know this because there is no way you found me through Google. No content + brand new blog = 0 organic visitors. The truth is, I recently purchased this domain and decided to get a head start on the link building... even though it was parked by GoDaddy. I knew that it was a dumb idea, but I just can't help myself!

I hope you aren't too disappointed that this blog isn't chock-full of rich, link-baiting content. This blogger setup will never live up to that description, but I hopethat this blog will become a go-to resource for aspiring web developers once it is transferred to Wordpress and hosted properly. That being said, if you own a Wordpress blog or site, please let me know what hosting service you are using by either leaving a comment or voting on the poll in the sidebar. I have researched many different hosting companies and many appear to be too similar for me to choose one over the other. The reason why I am so hesitant is that I have very limited funding at my disposal. Oh, and I also want to host a MediaWiki project so if anyone has any advice regarding that, please share.

As the title explicitly details, this is my personal blog about websites, search engine optimization and online marketing. Unlike many other web developers and passive income "gurus", I did not "sell my first ebook at the age of six" or "quit my job and started making a full time passive income before I left high school". I'm not a successful developer. I'm simply going to write about what I am currently working on, what I'm learning and what is working for me. (or not working at all...)

Thanks again for stopping by. I will not be putting up an RSS feed because this site is only temporary, but please follow me on Twitter if you are interested: @alexwideman.

  1. I use Dreamhost for most of my sites, and while they have been great, I wouldn't necessarily recommend them. There have been a few downtimes, and their prices are iffy. Most people would recommend Hostgator, so I would go with them.

    Good luck on the site.

  2. I suggest using e-rice if you are on a limited budget because it only costs $30 a year.

  3. Thanks for the suggestions guys. :D I'll definitely take both into consideration.

  4. I have 5 domain names all hosted in Godaddy. I don't see any votes for Godaddy in your poll. So, far it has worked out great for me :)

I have also used Hostgator and Dreamhost and for some of my client's sites. (Because they wanted to host it in that particular host) No problems so far.

  5. Hey Adam,

Yea those seem to be the top three most popular and most praised hosts. Some people may argue that BlueHost is in the top three, but I have read too many bad reviews about them. Thanks for commenting and adding your opinion. :D

  6. I think that's a great way to go about things Alex.

It's like - we all didn't start at this super-young age or made it big overnight; many of us have to put in those hard hours to get it done.

Additionally, far too many people will talk game but never put it into effect. I've always found it far more enjoyable to read posts where the blogger has taken actual real-world experience and spun it into the post.

As for hosting, I'm currently using Hostgator :)

  7. I would definitely recommend Hostgator. I recently switched to them and I haven't had any reason to complain.

  8. Thanks for taking the time to comment Murlu and Julius.

@Murlu - Yea I'm going to try and do provide real-world experience in my posts and give real working examples and evidence to back up what I'm saying.

@Julius - That is definitely what I have been hearing from almost everybody. Those who are using Hostgator have nothing negative to say about them.

    Thanks guys!
